Nikkie Van de Water

Biomed Intern
Nijmegen, Netherlands

Nikkie van de Water has always been drawn to experimentation and problem-solving—making chemistry a natural path from the very beginning. Her academic journey began with a Level 4 vocational program (MBO) and progressed to a bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry at HAN University of Applied Sciences, where she developed a strong foundation in laboratory methods and data interpretation.

As part of her final year, Nikkie joined BioMed for her graduation internship, focusing on the early-stage development of a pain relief formulation. Her research explored medication release profiles, contributing to a deeper understanding of the compound’s behavior and potential therapeutic applications.

Throughout her internship, Nikkie was given significant independence, allowing her to build confidence in working autonomously while refining her analytical thinking and attention to detail. The experience also helped strengthen her creative problem-solving skills and ability to think beyond conventional approaches.

Outside of her academic and professional work, Nikkie enjoys long-distance walking, including participating in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches—covering 40 kilometers per day for four consecutive days. She also plays indoor soccer, maintaining a balance between focused research and active recreation.

Nikkie brings curiosity, precision, and a hands-on mindset to every challenge—qualities that have made her a strong contributor to the BioMed team.
